Attention! Starting in Issue 4 Peasant Magazine will be paying a small stipend to contributors, a sum of $0.01 for every 10 words. Thus a 6,000 word short story will pay $6 USD. We purchase both reprint rights and first world-wide publication rights. You should be aware that if your story is published by Peasant Magazine you will no longer be able to sell first publication rights to another publisher. So if you want to get paid more we recommend publishing elsewhere and then you can always submit to Peasant Magazine later for reprinting after you've already been paid by a different publisher.
ARCANE TOMESArcane Tomes / ArcaneTomes.org is an indie fantasy bookstore (of sorts) sponsored by Peasant Magazine and serves to promote Indie Fantasy Books, and also serves to promote Peasant Magazine itself. Joining Arcane Tomes is free and the only requirement is that authors must have self-published at least one book. Literary magazines/journals that publish fantasy stories by indie authors are also acceptable.

OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONSPeasant Magazine is currently open for submissions. In fact, we're always open for submissions. We also don't keep track of release dates or due dates for submissions. Our goal is to publish a new issue whenever we reach a quota of 40K to 60K worth of stories that we feel match our criteria for originality, length (1,000 to 12,000 words), quality, being well-written (no spelling/grammar errors), is within our chosen genres/subgenres, and is either family friendly or PG. As long as your story ticks all the right boxes then it is pretty much guaranteed to get an acceptance letter. (Unless we are flooded with submissions, which means it might take some time before we get to your submission. But we will get to it eventually.) Starting with Issue #4 we will also be paying a small stipend to each contributor, likely based upon word count. We wish that we could afford to pay everyone more, but we need to grow the magazine's popularity in order to reach that point. If you are hoping to get paid more then we recommend checking out a variety of better paying markets to try and sell your story that way first before bringing it to us, at which point we will be happy to reprint your story and pay you a second time. Remember we accept Reprints, so you can certainly publish elsewhere, get paid, and then bring your story to us later and we will still accept to publish it as a reprint. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONSSometimes, at various points during the year, Peasant Magazine is actively calling for submissions. This means several possible things:
Since we don't really have an "off button" in terms of deadlines and submissions, we basically welcome submissions at any point. Furthermore we don't have any preferences towards authors who have never published before or authors who have been published many times before. Everyone is a writer from our eyes so long as you write. We don't subscribe to the idea that people are "aspiring writers" and that they should be discouraged from publishing in magazines until they've already published a book. That's absolute nonsense. We believe the all authors should publish anywhere and any way that they can. So go ahead and submit your work. The worst thing that can happen is that we reject it because it needs to be edited significantly, but that doesn't mean that your story isn't worth reading. It just means you need to go back and edit, edit, edit in order to make improvements and then submit it a second time. People who give up because a publisher asked them to edit their work will continue to suffer until they realize that doing a quality job of editing your work is the quickest way to get publishers to take your work seriously.
